[The Wondrous Colour Brown]
By: KAN Yuen Yee, Christine (Hall 11)
If I asked you to think of brown, what do you see? Although brown is a common colour, it is often neglected because it isn’t as fierce as blazing red or as calm as ocean blue. Frankly, how many people say brown is their favourite colour? Nonetheless, brown is present in so many things, it deserves to be noticed now and then. Here is a little something dedicated to the colour brown.
What is brown?
Brown is a common colour, often neglected because:
Brown is a murky colour, like dirty footprints on a rainy day.
Brown is the name of my teacher, who yelled at me in 2nd grade.
Brown is the colour of soil, filled with worms and creepy-crawlies.
Brown is the fur of wild bears, out to scare and ready to hunt.
But Brown also speaks of nature, of morning and fresh bark.
And Brown is the smell of coffee, sweet and soothing after a hard day’s done.
Brown is the taste of chocolate, and brownies, freshly baked.
And Brown is that of my teddy bear, who was so much fun.
‘So what is brown?’ You may ask.
My answer is: ‘Brown is the reason that I write this piece today’.
