“You can’t sit with us!” – a popular quote, and scene, from the renowned American chic flick movie Mean Girls, perfectly illustrates how awkward and bitter it is to be ostracized by a group of friends. Or should I say, ‘so-called friends’.

The feeling of not fitting in, being isolated, distant, and alienated from the majority of a group – like an outcast, is not pleasant at all. Yet, the ugly truth is that sometimes it is inevitable. Every one of us must have gone through such a feeling.

Their jokes seemed to be related to a past that everyone but you has shared; they proceed to another location with or without noticing your presence; you may seem upset or confused, but no one bothered to care and ask about it…

As if you are wearing the Invisibility Cloak of Harry Potter’s.

However, don’t be frustrated yet. They are not the only one you can be friends with. Keep your options open: There are 7 billion people on earth. Be more friendly and initiate conversations with others. Also, don’t take it personally. Always remain dignified and polite. Be the more mature person, and stay true to yourself. You will always find the circle where you belong.

To take off that cloak, or to feel comfortable wearing it, it is your choice.

無法融入,被孤立,距離感,隔閡,疏遠…… 就好像被拋棄的孤兒一樣,這一點都不好受。但是,悲哀的現實就是這種「隔膜」是無可避免的。我們都曾體驗過這種感受。
