By: LI Yanan, Nana (Sir Gordon and Lady Ivy Wu Hall)
Influenza is a highly infectious viral disease. The peak season is from January to March and from July to August. Influenza is transmitted from person to person by droplet or contact of respiratory secretion (direct or indirect). Since we are now within the peak season, to minimize the transmission of influenza, it is essential for residents to maintain good personal hygiene and household environmental hygiene. The following are some advices:
- Wash hands frequently. Achieve hand hygiene by good handwashing and proper use of alcohol-based handrub.
- Maintain good ventilation. Windows should be opened for better ventilation. Switch on exhaust fans or air-conditioners to enhance air flow.
- Maintain your household environment clean and hygienic. Clean the floor regularly, and keep it dry; Change and clean bed sheets and duvet covers regularly; Rubbish should be properly wrapped up, and empty garbage bins every day.
Furthermore, residents should regularly monitor temperatures, check with a doctor if you feel uncomfortable. Also, you should pay attention to health topics released by Department of Health.
